This little box is fitted with a musical mechanism which plays songs from punched paper strips.
The mechanism is secured inside a wooden box and a design is painted onto the lid. Each paper strip has a custom design printed on sturdy satin paper into which a song is punched out.
Strips are fed into the box by turning a crank handle and emerge out the other side ready to play again. The strip passes through a mechanism with tiny metal bars which create different notes depending on where the holes are punched. When the holes are arranged in specific configurations it can play short tunes!
I have a collection of music strips (and more designs) to choose from if you want additional music to play. Unlike conventional music boxes you only need one mechanism to play all the different strips available.
Currently I do not offer a paid transposing service, but am working on releasing more songs over time. Check back later or follow diyCrossing on social media to see what else is added!
I aim to ship music box preorders in about a month, depending on material availability and complexity of the order.
Parcels are sent via Royal Mail 2nd class, international standard, or international tracked & signed based on your location. You can review postage and tracking options at checkout.

Hey! I'm Brackenhawk, a UK-based artist specialising in sculpture and painting. You've found your way to my hub for AC-themed art and creative projects including custom figurines, music boxes and make-it-yourself crafts.
Each week I craft figurines from scratch live on twitch, sharing the entire process from chunk of clay to work of art. Edited footage from streams is used to assemble time-lapsed featurettes showing off how each character came to life. In addition to my art I also transpose songs into strips for music boxes, dabble in textiles, woodworking and graphic design and try out all sorts of crafty things.
